The World Sand Sculpting Academy is bringing to life the theme of ‘Tribute to the Veterans’ in a life-sized sand sculpture on the Buitenhof in The Hague’s city centre.
The organisers wish to draw even more attention from a wider public to the role of the veterans, who have been deployed in the name of peace. The sculptures will contribute towards reinforcing The Hague’s image as International City of Peace and Justice. This fits in perfectly with the slogan of The Hague Festivals: feel free to celebrate!
Tribute to the veterans
An international team of artists, including from Ireland, the U.S. and the Netherlands, will work together on their interpretation of the veterans in a sand sculpture measuring about 5 metres high.
One side shows soldiers in action with tanks and planes while the other side portrays their transition back to Dutch society. The Dutch ministries are also being made out of sand. The tribute will play a part in the Veterans Day festivities on 25 June in the centre of The Hague.
Come out and watch the sand artists at work on the Veterans from 17 to 27 May while the giant sculpture is being constructed. The sculpture will remain on display until 27 June.
